New York Counties

New York has 62 counties, each with its own clerk or local registrar that handles death index records and vital records requests. Outside New York City, the county clerk or town and village clerks maintain local copies of death certificates. The five New York City boroughs (New York, Kings, Bronx, Queens, and Richmond counties) are served by the NYC Municipal Archives and the NYC Department of Health.
